I have been asked many times over the years whether I offer photography tuition. I am now very excited to announce that I will be running a series of photography courses for DSLR owners who want to improve their skills, starting next month:

Take control of your DSLR!

Learn to shoot in manual mode and make the most of your equipment! This course is aimed at  beginners who want to learn to take great photos with their digital SLR.

When? The course will run for 5 weeks starting Thursday 3rd March 2011, every Thursday morning at 9:30-11:30am in my own home in St Albans. The final session will be outdoors to put into practice all that we have learned.

Who? I will be teaching the class and places will be strictly limited to a maximum of 6 participants to make sure everyone gets as much as possible out of the class.

There are no prerequisites for this course but you will need a digital SLR and if you have more than one lens please bring them along to the course.

How? The first 4 sessions will be classroom based and the last session will be a hands-on practical session, shooting outdoors if the weather permits. There will be assignments each week which will require 1 to 2 hours of your own time outside of the class. The more work you put into this course, the more you will get out of it!

Course content:

  • Shooting in Manual mode by understanding the exposure triangle: the relationship between Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO setting
  • The impact of the lens/focal length on your image
  • How to recognise the different types of light and understanding white balance
  • Focusing techniques for sharper pictures
  • The basic rules of compositions

Interested in the course but can’t make this time? I will be running evening classes again later this year, drop me a line to be added to the waiting list: [email protected].
